• Recorded in New York, New York in 1966.
• No credits are given here, but on the aural evidence this combines tracks that appeared on Morrisons 1967 debut album BLOWIN YOUR MIIND along with demos (from the same period) for songs that were eventually re-recorded with different musicians for ASTRAL WEEKS. BLOWIN YOUR MIND, of course, was unlike anything else at the time. Personal in the extreme, it mixed classic romantic New York r&b a la Leiber and Stoller and "Spanish Harlem" with a sort of doomy Celtic fatalism; the result was a fusion that remains unique. Highlights include the classic single "Brown Eyed Girl," (with unforgettable lead guitar work courtesy of New York session legend Al Gorgoni) and the harrowing, haunted "T.B. Sheets," a nine minute death watch in which Van and his harmonica get about as deep into the blues as is healthy for any human being.
